and for the many who have worked at a theater, are there any restrictions to other work areas there because of age?

Sixteen is the legal age at which you can begin your working life.
As long as you can be put on a payroll and have taxes deducted from your paycheck, then you can be hired. This is legal at sixteen.

I guess it depends where you are, but I worked at a movie theater when I was 16 (in California)

Well actually most theaters do hire 16 year olds. Go on down there and ask them, they will tell you.
