Fuel Inj, V6, Auto Trans. It has fuel -- has spark to all cylinders. Fuses are ok. Cranks ok. Occasionally spits (backfires) thru throttle body. Right before it died, friend stated it ran horrible and had to feather gas to stay running. Would run for about 2 minutes and die. Also he thought he saw a low oil psi as well. (He's kinda unsure of this)

Ran it out of oil...or the camshaft snapped. Seen the latter happen more on 3.4L engine. Oil pump is driven off gear on rear of camshaft.

Stick a fork in it and flip it over...it's done.

It's possible the timing chain slipped one or two teeth...one tooth it should start but run bad. Two teeth, it won't run at all, just fire through the intake...

oil pressure? you'll have to check that with a pressure gage screwed into the sender hole after removing the sender. It should build up some pressure just cranking.

did your freind put diesel in it? could be a blown head gasket. take a look at your oil and see if it looks milky, if its a blown head gasket there will be antifreeze in the oil. judging by the year, id say its a 3.1, right?
