Wouldn't it be must nicer if money didn't exist?

If everything in life was free, wouldn't that be much better? If everyone could learn to share, wouldn't that be much nicer?

I understand that if everything was free, then nobody would work.

However, the government could make it a law that each person worked 6-8 hours a day, Monday to Friday.

If everything belonged to everyone, then theft would be impossible, and no longer exist. There would be no need for any more banks, and no more paper work. No more stress of paying bills. No more stress of losing money. No more having to sell your old car to buy a new car. No more advertisements on TV, newspapers, et cetera. The world would be simplified, people would learn to share, and work.

It would make everything so much better. You could park your car anywhere, and drive any other car you find on the road, home, since everyone owned all cars.

You would give more, and recieve more. It would work, I see no reason why not.

What an awesome idea. The world is already corrupted with greed, anger, war, depression, etc. It's too late to change anything now. I say damn you to the person/people who came up with the idea of money.

In an ideal world, we would not need money. But then who would take the jobs that nobody wanted? There would be no motivation to work or to go to school. (Even if required by law.) If we all don't need money, why go to college to earn a degree? (Which many want degrees for bigger earning potential.) Why finish highschool? I mean, how many kids finish high school purely because not many jobs will take a high school drop out? If we all could have anything we want, why not take any old job? There would be no need for goals. You won't have a sense of accomplishment. Don't you love looking around your home and seeing all the nice things that you have earned? And that hard work and determination got you to where you were. There would still be theft.
Not all thiefs steal from lack of money. It's a thrill thing or an acceptance thing or you feel like society owes you or they find it fun. I also think that if we had no money, many people would get bored. If you can have anything you want, why work hard at anything? And there are not enough jobs for everyone. How many people are currently unemployed? Whether it be from lay offs or handicaps, or whatever the situation.
The Sheryl Crow song "Soak Up the Sun" says "It's not having what you want. It's wanting what you've got."
Still...one can dream.

So your saying people should work really hard all day, but not get anything out of it? "Well mister, you did a great job today, best man workin' here...but you don't get anything to show how great you did!" People wouldn't work...nothing would get done. How is it fair to have half of the people do all the work, and let the other half benefit from it? And then what happens when someone gets power hungry and wants everything for themselves?! According to your plan that would be OK because everything belongs to everyone. What if someone came into your house, and kicked you out because they were stronger then you and said, "This is my house now, GET OUT!!!" Well, all your stuff is in there, but there's nothing you could do about it. Now maybe you wouldn't, but some people would go back into that house and try to beat that guy up, which could lead to massive fights over property. Not a good idea, it would lead to lots of violence.

The Problem:
Most of the problems existing today

The Social Invention:
What would get the best result out of anyone? working to make a living or working to support life? while everyone says it can't be done, i'm sure it can...utopia? maybe but at least the result will be way better than the mess we live in today.

A systematical distribution of work and luxury...favouring or discriminating no-one. Many of you might laugh at the following (but for those with a brain it will at least make some sense) Economy is only a dream; farmers are paid to destroy part of their harvest in times of abundance, oil prices are based upon how many barrels are pumped up...if you can't see the dirty game being played all around us, you must be choosing NOT to see. and if you're thinking such world is not possible i ask you this, do you really need to be able to prey upon your neighbour before you will support him?

A world without money...not all that impossible and NEVER worse than the present time but half of every achievement is desire
....or are we such a rotten breed?

How would you feel if someone used your toothbrush? You would have to get rid of the concept of "mine", which really isn't going to work. Don't you ever get someone irked when someone uses something of yours without asking? Would you wear another person's underwear?

These are kinda gross, but if "everything belonged to everyone" then that means that some person could walk into where ever you are, no matter what you are doing, ie: being intimate, or using the bathroom, and do whatever they want.

While your exampled world would SOUND great, would you really want an audience while you shower? while you pleasure your spouce? while you deficate? Don't know about you, but I will have MY toothbrush in MY bathroom in MY house.

Money is just a tool and not the problem itself. A world as you speak of could hardly exist. Who would own the Mona Lisa and items that are less numerous like diamonds or valuables?
The problem here is not money by itself because a tool for exchange between people is needed for life in society to function. And without paper money, something else would become the trading unit.
The problem is more the mentality of consumerism and accumulation of wealth. Egal distribution of ressources could be possible without our mentality of greediness and selfishness. We have to learn to share and live in society and not seek only our personal achievment.

People have always traded something, whether gold, grain or myhrr. Money just means you do not have to drag a ton of corn around. It has never worked for everyone to share - some end up working harder than others & some freeload. Men have never treated one another fairly enough to not reward those who work harder or smarter & they never will. It is a nice dream but will never be more than a dream.

your basic idea is the ideal of communism, which is not a bad thing as most americans think

problems, we as a race need to grow a LOT spiritually and mentally before we could ever enact true communism

due to current levels of society maturity, when people do not have a personal interest in work then quality, productivity, and innovation suffers.

greed is really what capitalism is about and is the motivator for human productivity.

not all people would be happy with having the same as everyone else, that is why we are all different. instead of a society of individuals, we would be a society of one, nice dream, but not realistic

a world without money would mean barter or trade. Knowing that people are just plain greedy, you would have problems with people taking more than their fair share. There is a reason money exists so that those who work the hardest get rewarded and those who don't...don't. Money is incentive for people to get off their keister and do something productive. I think money is necessary.

In theory, this would be great, but your assumption relies on everyone acting civil and not wanting more than the next guy. It's just like communism... in theory communism is a great idea. It's the people that corrupt the ideal.

Production would equal what people receive.
Production is high in this country because people are
rewarded for how hard they work. Your
solution would be a disaster. You are talking about
a utopia, which doesn't exist. You are not taking human
nature into account.
