It depends usually there are Padrinos/Madrinas for everything:
The Cake
Your Dress
The Hall
The DJ
Party Favors
Drinks
Napkins
Your Doll
Your Tiara
Your ring, necklace, and bracelet
and every little thing you can think of.

I think that tradition has not completly died down. I would say that you should see where the party is taking place and dress appropriately. I have seen Quinceaneras at a community centre and the men and ladies wore semi formal attire. As for the younger ones, dressy clothes but nothing crazy and revealing like the one mentioned above "short, shorts"!!!! If they are holding it at a nice venue with full course meals then get ready to dazzle them! If you are close to the ones holding the party then just ask them what they are wearing. I'm sure you won't want to look out of place if you show up with street clothes when you shouldn't. As for the gift, money or gift card to a major shopping mall would be ideal. Have a great time!

depends...
there are sometimes padrinos for everything
(dress, food, last doll, cake, etc)
there are sometimes the strangest things
you can be [padrinos] for...(ie napkins.. seriously.)
If you're [padrino/madrina de honor],
it'd be best to just ask the family....
I prefer being told what they want than
when they ask for a specific amount of money...
It's usually cheaper when you get the things on your own,
if the case is that you'd like to save money.
