Pygmy goats and Nigerian Dwarfs are the two smallest breeds. I have both kinds and they both make wonderful pets. I have to disagree about their horns being dangerous. I have some horned, and some disbudded. I've owned miniature goats for over 3 years now and have never seen them use their horns on a person. Friendly goats just want attention, scared goats just stay away. They headbutt each other whether they have horns or not. Intact bucks of any breed make horrible pets, they are the ones that can get agressive and they also STINK. Does and wethers (neutered bucks) both make GREAT pets, horns or no horns. It is important that you have proper fencing and shelter for them, but they are easy animals to take care of otherwise. Fencing can be kind of a challenge because they can jump, and squeeze under or through small weak spots in the fence. If they get out they usually do not go far, but they will eat your landscaping plants and climb on everything they can.

We have 5 goats and I would have to disagree that they arent for kids! Two of our goats pull a child around in a cart and the others do tricks! Although they do eat everything I think they make a perfect childs pet because they definately have the energy and are so silly, which the kids enjoy. I dont think there is a specific breed of goat that is just perfect for kids, I would shop around and see each goats personalities etc and not just judge by the breed.

Pygmy goats makes wonderful pets..but make sure that the breeder de-buds them before you take it home...debudding is having the buds (horns) burned off while they are young..I know its sounds cruel but its not..Get it done before they grow. The reason they do this is to protect you, other animals, and goats that they are with..Also you cant have a goat by itself..They are herd animals, and if alone will enventually get sick or die..The best time to get goats are when they are very young....If you can a bottle baby is best..Your impression on them while bottle feeding stays with them..They think your the mom..I have two little darlings and they follow me where ever I go...Get them spayed and neutered too..When they are about 6 months..They have kids once a year..Gestation is about 5 months.......Look up a good website about raising goats.

Pygmy goats. And no goats are best for children. Goats just want to eat everything in site including plants, wood, couches, and anything else. I once had a goat that got into my car and ate the seats.
