Limewire is actually quite a safe program for downloading music etc.. - If it was Kazaa u would have a big problem coz its full of viruses now. But to uninstall/remove it - first make sure the program is closed. When you press X to close it, it just shrinks and continues to work. You will find the icon in the bottom right menu - the one that looks like a lime slice. Then go to control panel, add/remove programs and find it there and remove it and make sure you remove all files for it when it asks. It should work, if it doesnt then either she keeps reinstalling it or there are files still on the computer or it may be a virus. I have no problem uninstalling and reinstalling it though on my computer. I think there is a way to set it so it opens when the computer starts up so maybe there are some files still somewhere.

Edit - To find files go to the search bit under the start menu and look for limewire. Also someone said something about the system restore thing - if you do that you will lose anything you have done or anything new you have added or installed after that restore point so if you do that save everything onto an external harddrive or dvd....

But if you cant remove it it probably wont do much or any harm. Just run a virus scan daily or weekly - but i do that anyway even without using limewire.

There are several issues here. First, you're not willing to pay a few bucks for Limewire Pro. However, if your daughter uses Limewire to download music, movies or software then she will be breaking the law. If she's caught you'll be facing a lawsuit. The fine is $750.00 to $150,000.00 for each file illegally downloaded, although the RIAA generally settles for around $10,000.00. That's on top of lawyer's bills and court fees, so you're looking at a lot of money there. Since Limeire is usually used for criminal activities like illegally downloading music, hackers take advantage of greedy people and seed the network with viruses. The odds of contracting a virus of some sort are high. If you have any bank account or credit card information on the computer, it may be stolen and your accounts compromised. You'll probably also have to pay to have the computer cleaned off once it's virus-infested, so that will cost you as well. And of course, do you want to send your daughter the message that you approve of breaking the law and that you think stealing is acceptable? After all, using Limewire to download music is the same thing as walking into a store, grabbing a CD and walking out without paying for it. How would you react if your daughter was busted for shoplifting? Would you help her to shoplift? If not, why would you install Limewire to help her steal using the internet?

Hi

Limewire is a really good download site as there is no spyware or adware that is bundled with it. Also you can set parental controls so you can only download 'safe' stuff. If it really is causing you grief then run the uninstaller through add/remove programs in control panel. Also check to see that all limewire files/folders have been deleted after restart by doing a search, checking the advanced options to look in system/hidden folders. Remember too to be logged on as an administrator to do all this.

Happy PC'ing!!!

The program probably has Uninstalled, Click Start, Run, Msconfig, Under Start up Tab, uncheck the reference to limewire, it sounds like the start up is still loading the reference to it, if not then go to program files, open the limewire folder and find the uninstall icon and remove it from that way.. Good Luck

This is going to be difficult...

Before you uninstall it, go into your start menu then click on run (bottom right of menu) write 'msconfig' and click ok.

Click on the services tab at the top and look for limewire, if it's there stop it but if it isn't there click on the 'start up' tab next to services and look for limewire in there, if you find it and it is ticked, untick it then click ok.

Restart your computer and you will get a system configuration pop up, put a tick in the box and click ok.

Now go to your control panel and remove it.

This should remove it.

Hope that helps :)

There are many programs that are so cleverly coded that you have difficulty removing them, even going through Add & Remove Programs...

Here is a handy little tool that is FREE
download and follow the instructions
and those nuisance programs will be removed on reboot.
Use
REMOVE ON BOOT SHELL EXTENSION

Go to:
http://www.bjb-inc.com/products.asp
Scroll down to: (and click it to download)
Remove on Reboot Shell Extension - Free
OS: Windows
Size: 364 Kb

1. Download it
2. To remove program >Right click on your program folder that you want removed
3. Left click sub-menu option: REMOVE ON REBOOT
4. Then reboot your pc
I've had lots of great luck with this little program. I think you'll like it too.
====================
Note: To get to a program FOLDER (not just the shortcut icon) >
a. RIGHT click START > select Explore >
b. then in the Explore window, left panel >
c. scroll down to Programs >
d. then in Programs scroll down to the FOLDER that has the program you want to remove

e...then do the right click "remove on reboot" selection >
f. Restart your computer
