It is just another variation of a cutter.

The Japanese researched this pitch for years, and while Daisuke Matsuzaka is the most popular user of the pitch, no one claims to have mastered it.

Many people think it's just a variant changeup, no worse than a palmball, or anything else pro hitters can hit. Al Leiter claims he once threw a pitch like that: he called it a cutter.

We won't know much about it until Matsuzaka starts throwing it in front of cameras, fans and critics, and considering he has a slew of other pitches in his repertoire, it could take some time.

the gyro ball does exsist. Kazushi Tezuka is the man who created the pitch. i left a link to a really good article with a multi media presentation about the pitch.

using a standard fastball grip, go into a basic motion. Only at the end of the delivery do you deviate. turn the inside of your throwing arm away from your body and released the ball as if it were a football, making it spiral toward home plate.

There is no such thing as a gyroball pitch. That was just a crazy story , probably started by the media.

I don't know how to throw it, but I die laughing when colin cowherd, from espn radio, talks about it. He has that funny sound from the Bugs Bunny cartoons when Bugs is a pitcher. Good stuff.
