I'm 26 weeks pregnnat, and I know that pain while you're sleeping is normal, and using a body pillow should help, but every night i wake up and my knees hurt really bad. I've tried using a body pillow, but they still hurt when I wake up. It feels like someone kicked me in the knees! :( So if anyone has any ideas on what might help please let me know. Thanks!

It could be restless leg sydrome which is fairly common in pregnancy.
You may have developed varicose veins which are also common in pregnancy.
Or perhaps your legs just aren't used to the added weight
You could try leg stretches or have your partner give your legs a good 10 minute massage everyday

I've been dealing with chronic knee pain for the last 6 years, (and now I'm 15 weeks along with my first). While I'm not sure of the cause of your pain, I can definitely give you some advice on knee-pain management.

1) Your pregnant so your pain-killers need to just be tylenol or something your doctor recomends. There are things like cortizone shots or synvisc injections, but they really hurt going in, so I would just try the tylenol first.

2) Ice is a wonderful thing. Icing my knees for 15 minutes makes the world a better place.

3) Sensible shoes are a wonderful thing. This may just related to the structure of my knees, but going barefoot, heels, and hard-soled shoes really aggrevates the pain. Soft-soled, flat shoes can make all the difference in the world.

4) Mental exercise - try not to think of the pain as good or bad - just nuetrally observe it - like "I feel a burny sensation" and that's it. This helps deal with the fear and emotional aspects of pain, and the difference is huge.

good luck.

its normal for some people try soaking in a bath before bed and trying to stay off your feet as much as possible you might be one of these people that might have to finish work earlier than most try looking at the chemist for some natural creams for you knees if in Australia get hold of some emu oil its fantastic also try elevating your knees at night time its caused from extra weight on your knees that their not used to if the pain keeps up mention it to your doctor
