It seems to me that we have a right wing and a middle wing. No one is completely to the left in the House. No one is an atheist, no one supports gay marriage, and no one is even close to bringing up a bill to decriminilize marijuana. Any thoughts?

an atheist that supports gay marriage and supports marijuana use wouldn't be a "true" democrat anyway... you are missing the point of being liberal... being liberal doesn't mean you accept things for your own life.. just that you don't judge others for their choices of it.. plenty of true democrats are christian.. actually most are.. we just don't demonize the members of the party that aren't... there are gay members in the democratic party.. though most of us are not.. again, we don't judge them.. and believe the government shouldn't be telling them that they can or can't be married.. either marriage is a government institution.. in which case gays have the same rights as straight people... or it is not a governmental institution.. in which case no one should get the tax break.. let religion have it as their ceremony... and as for marijuana... some support it, some don't.. but again.. we don't demonize those in our party that do.. though admittedly a good majority of those that are avid supporters switched to the green party.

Being a real Democrat involves more than being far left wing. There are real slightly left, moderate, and right-leaning Democrats. If you wish to see a far left atheist sitting in the Oval Office, don't hold your breath. This country has come out swinging in favor of centrism lately. The far left doesn't get represented by a viable candidate because there are none. At least none that will appeal to the population to the extent that they can garner a high number of votes. Gay marriage will happen in this country within the next twenty years, no matter who sits in the Oval Office. They're NEVER going to legalize marijuana. I know people say never say never but I'm saying NEVER - and don't assume my position on it from that opinion. I think it should be decriminalized myself. I'm not trying to be a smart aleck but most people in this country have had enough of extremism - mostly from the right, but it has the effect of turning a bad spotlight on extremism no matter which side it hails from.

Most Americans are in the center leaning slightly to one way or the other. The Conservative extremists, for example, see the centerists, either leaning, as bleeding heart liberals. The extreme liberals (Kennedy, perhaps) would see all the centerists as conservative. So those things you state Athiest, support gay marriage and decriminalize marijuana is not within the centerist idea of what is good for America.

The democrats could probably win back a lot of the vote if they showed a little more backbone against terrorism and stopped pandering to the pro-choice ideology so much. A true democrat, to me, is one who sticks up for the little guy (the poor, the unborn, the elderly, disabled, etc) no matter what. What you seem to be describing (pro gay marriage, atheist, pro-drug use) is the fringe element of the Democratic party.

Let's see. A presidential candidate who is an atheist, supports gay marriage and the llegalization of marijuana. Hummmmm, chances of such a candidate being elected, ABSOLUTE ZERO!

Aside from the marijuana for medical care, the rest should burn in hell ! I personnaly don't believe any of these social issues should be attached to politics, vigilante groups on the other hand ????

I don't think there is a Democrat like that because the Democratic Party doesn't represent those people.

someone just has to grow some balls and quit hiring all these publicists who tell them to be quiet- John Edwards was talking about that recently.

Russ Feingold is jewish not athesit, but he's one of the best left-wing politians out there. he won't run though

Never. Republicans and Democrats want to get elected. Therefore, they can't afford to be too far from the center.

Not even the left would vote for a candidate with those positions.
