'Cause they're crap-bags.

I've taught dance in the past and think it's a total shame that public schools so severely neglect arts funding because the arts have been shown in many studies to improve students' achievement in _all_ academic areas - including those not supposedly related to art, such as math. The National Education Association has written some fantastic articles on the lack of arts in education.

You are not the 1st person to shout about this. But it comes down to where the booster money comes from. There are more parents willing to shell out money for their kid to have the best advantage in a sport. Why? the world will never know, many of them have delusions of grandeur that their child will be a sports professional someday, which they never will. They don't recognize that a sport is as talent oriented as the arts are. Here's a better question: why to male oriented sports Football, Lacrosse, soccer, get all the funding when the girls sports get next to nothing? CFR Title 9 prohibits sex discrimination in public school activities.

President Harry S Truman once said that it was the 'C' students who were running the world. That's the main reason why science and art get overlooked, but sports get all the dollars.

Take heart knowing that when you get into college or art school, things will be a lot more art-friendly. When you're a hip, popular artist exhibiting at the Guggenheim, you'll laugh at all the dumb jocks who are now middle-aged couch potatoes in pain from all their football injuries ;)

I have never understood why schools don't know that they exist for the primary purpose of teaching the students how to make money. Everything else learned in school is secondary in importance to being prepared to make a living.

I would guess that the administrators putting all the focus on sports are the same math challenged individuals who are buying up all the lottery tickets. They must think that graduating one million dollar athlete every 50 years pays more taxes than producing a multitude of graduates prepared for today's business world.

Basically it is because of the money and fame that they bring to the school. I know its sad to say but more people seem to be interested in sports such as football, etc. than art.

it seems that in high school, more people are interested in sports than art. what ever generates the most interest usually gets the most support. then there is some schools can't afford both & sports has more interest.
