i used it once , many years ago and it worked , now there is a special epoxy that is supposed to be formulated just for gas tanks , i would try that , as for safety , push a long nail or a piece of pipe into the ground and run a wire to the gas tank so static and sparks will be grounded , less chance of boom . good luck , be safe.

Take a bar of ivory soap, and rub the bar over the leak. This will seal the hole temporarily and allow you to get the car to a shop where an experienced mechanic can do a permenant fix.
Another technique that works with larger holes is to find a pice of rubber (a scrap of innertube will do) and cut a piece about half an inch larger than the hole. Then take a sheet metal screw that is slightly larger in diameter than the hole, and put the screw threw the rubber, then screw the screw into the hole. The rubber will act as a gasket and seal the hole for some time. (During the Viet Nam war, they actually used this technique to seal bullet holes in airplane fuel tanks. A lot of these planes remained in serves for many weeks before they had definative repairs.) I have used the soap repair a few times, and it is surprisingly effective. It will seal the leak for days.

No seal all, that is a bad idea. drain as much gas as you can out, so that the hole no longer leaks. Dry the area off completley, clean the hole up as much as possible, without creating any sparks. Once its clean apply some JB weld, and let it dry twenty four hours, I have seen this work for months.
Best of Luck!

Get a screw a little bigger than the hole and a rubber washer. Put the washer on the screw run it up in the tank. It will last a little while.

jb weld is a good idea, or any epoxy of some kind. if you can manage it, get a bolt with a rubber gromet on the head and just run that in the hole, should stop it alright.
