My wife leaned onto her laptop when it was closed and when she opened it the monitor was broken. It's cracked and there is like an 'inkblot' and crack lines extending from the lower corner. It only obscures about half the screen so her boss said she can still use it to work if she is able to see the workpage. I'm just wondering if this is dangerous? What are the screens made out of and is she going to be exposed to anything ?

Thanks in advance.

SpaceCowboy - just want to defend the boss, she's really a cool chick and my wife *wanted* extra hours and would need to send away for a new laptop and would lose the day of extra work, so my wife *wanted* to work on the broken laptop, lol. I think they're both just ignorant to the dangers and I myself wasn't sure, I tend to overreact lol so wanted some backup on the issue - lol. Anyway thanks for the answers :)

Laptop displays are LCD's Liquid Crystal Display. It really varies on how the laptop was designed so I would call the tech support line of the manufacturer, The only real hazard would be that the computer might malfunction. You could replace the screen as a DIY project, it's not difficult if you get directions, a cheap place to buy them would be http://www.screentekinc.com/

Sounds like the boss is simply punishing her for breaking it.

It's a violation of the mfr specs for radiation and chemicals in the workplace. Needs to be replaced immediately. I wouldn't use it until repaired.

lcd panel potentially contains lead and mercury.

it rather is defaintly a liquid crystal demonstrate computer screen. the crt computer screen is what u might think of of the previous pc video demonstrate instruments that appear like television's, huge and cumbersome. it rather is alright to apply yet i could be searching for a replace for it quickly. you will discover new ones on line for below a hundred and that they are ordinary to replace.
