Yes, she's one of the very few celebrities who puts their money where their mouth is. I think she is a genuinely caring person. You see a lot of other celebrities telling us how we should contribute OUR money to this cause or that without actually contributing much themselves. Basically, they are looking for cheap PR. If Hollywood wanted to, they could end world hunger all by themselves - but that wouldn't leave much left for all their drugs and rehab.

Oprah Winfrey does nothing that does not benefit Oprah Winfrey in the long run. Please, people!!! When someone wants to do a truly altruistic thing, they do not broadcast it to the world and say "look at how, thoughtful, great, wonderful, benevolent, generous..etc..I am!" Unless...of course, they want the ATTENTION and the REWARDS that come from such an act.
Nothing O.W. does is without a camera crew and much advertising. She's an opportunist of the worst kind. I wish she'd go away...far far away...she is self important, self indulgent, and extremely tedious.

It was a really nice thing of her to do.....
And she isn't selfish like others around
It's was a brilliant idea and I thin kothers should learn sumthing
They shouldn't do things for publicity but should do it for those who can't afford to or don't have the facilities...!!

i agree, and am glad she helped out in africa.. and the majority of kids in the US wouldn't have appreciated that gesture as much as those African girls did....and yes, most of them here are mainly concerned with ipods and sneakers
