A definition essay is simply an essay where you tell what a term or idea means and how it is different from other terms or ideas in its class. There are different device patterns you could use, including exemplification, description, comparison and contrast, etc. Other strategies that might be useful for you may include synonyms, negation (telling what is not), enumeration (listing its characteristics), analogies, etc.
With these in mind, you can now fully explore the questions that you need to answer for your definition essay:
How do you define a mother and daughter relationship?
-Well, think of the things that only mothers and daughters can share. Is it the bond that they share that is unique and special in its own way? Also, think about your own personal friendships. How can you apply the things that encompass a friendship but relate them to one between a mother and daughter? A mother loves her daughter, but you must know where to draw the line. What is more important? Being a friend, or being a good mother? See where I'm going with this?
Why is it important for a daughter to make a friendship with her mom?
-Think about your own experiences with your mother. If your mom only did the things that we think of as "motherly," she may as well be a robot programmed to love you. Mothers do not love their daughters because they have to, they want to. Once you've forged a friendship with your mother, you may just find that she could be one of your most trusted friends. Again, it goes back to that mother-daughter bond that is so special.
Why can't a mother just be a mom?
-First of all, where's the fun in that? Moms are very good about finding a balance between being a mother and a friend to their daughters. Sometimes the daughter may need a friend instead of a mother. Think about that for a moment.
*Continue to ask and answer questions of your own. Brainstorm! That's the best way to ever start an essay. You may just find that you've had the answers all along, but they just needed to be rearranged to form a coherent essay.
I hope this has helped you!

Mother/daughter friendships are irreplacable. You know that your mother will always be there for you.
It's important because she will do anything for you. If you lose that friendship, you're losing more than you think.
She can't just be a mom because she is family. Family are your true best friends, and usually the only ones you can REALLY trust. They will always take you in and treat you as their daughter, no matter how old you are.
Elaborate on those main ideas...And I think that'd make a good essay.

Your Mom is always going to be your Mom but it is important to have a friendship with her also. Some one to confide in when there isn't any one else to talk to. I think now days there are to many Mom's out there that would like to be their daughters friend instead of being a parent. They are to afraid if they aren't then they will have no relationship at all. As for my daughter and myself we balance things out. She knows that she can talk to me but she also knows that I am the authority figure in her life. We have a great relationship...guess I'm lucky. This is the house all her friends come to, and ask the questions similar to what you are asking.

they can have a friendship in that the daughter feels she can talk to her mu about issues in her life. it is important that a mother and daughter have a good relationship so that they can gain each others trust. however the mother has the role of keeping the daughter safe and away from harm which the daughter may sometimes disagree with.
