for instance say you need to play the 10th fret on one string, then skip a string and one the third string play the 8th fret. i've tryed everything and i cn't figure out how it's done

most power chords are like rooted in barre chords and like you just skip the 3 note i believe in the scale to make a power chord... but if im reading your question right... your talking about picking and like skipping the string but then again its hard to tell what you mean online

What two strings are you referring to? EADBE? If you need to play a low E on the 10th fret and D on the 8th fret, you would use your ring finger to play the 10th and your forefinger to play the 8th.
Use the finger on the 10th fret to mute the string in the middle by laying it on top of it.

Have you tried muting the string you wanna skip by placing a finger on it, but not pressing?
