Model paint is formulated for plastic so you can certainly use it. As far as it's durability, I can't say. Model cars are not usually handled very often.

I will depend on several factors...

1) Which formula of "model paint"... enamel or acrylic

2) What type of plastic... styrene, ABS, or ??

3) Method of preparing, priming, and applying the plastic surface.

I used MOSTLY Enamel paints (Testors Model-Master) on styrene plastics... hundreds of aircraft and ship models and have NEVER had a problem with paint peeling off.

ONE thing to do is to WASH the plastic in warm water with dish-soap to remove the silicon-based release agent from the plastic and then handle the plastic as little as possible to avoid the oils on your fingers.

Good Luck !!
