Why do people give Rocky V such a raw deal?

I think its a great movie.

Saying that Rocky V almost destroyed the franchise is not a "raw deal." As a stand-alone movie, it's standard late-80's melodrama--nothing to brag about, but no worth hating. But as what is supposed to be the culmination of an epic journey that began with "Rocky", it is an abomination. It's as if the entire series was just thrown out the window in order to write a movie around Tommy Gunn.
A few major plot holes:
1) All of their money is gone in just a matter of weeks? Sure boxers in real life have lost fortunes, but never to the point of poverty where their wives have to go back to work at the pet shop?
2) How did his son go from being 6 years old in Rocky IV to 14 years old in Rocky V, in just the few months Rocky was in Russia? I'll tell you how--as a painful attempt to incorporate Stallone's no-talent son (see Sophia Copella, Godfather III for other examples).
3) "Remember the streets!" Rocky was never a street fighter. He was a bruiser, sure, but never a street fighter! And to imply that somehow hit street training is better than his boxing training is like saying that Michael Jordan would have done a lot better in the NBA if he would have just played street-ball instead of disciplined, professional basketball.

I'm sorry, but Rocky V, when viewed in the context of the entire series, is possibly the worst thing ever put to film (and I love Rocky).

It was just ok. We're so used to seeing these long, hard battles at the ends of each 1...Rocky V's wasn't much to brag about.
