Hello?....Hello?....Who is there?......Hello?....Baxter is that you?....Bark twice.....Hello?....Hello?
OR:
Sorry, I'm not home right now, I'm walking in the spiderwebs, leave a message and I'll call you back;a likely story, but leave a message,I'll call you back.
Either should work.

there are a few we like around here
one is pick up the phone and in your best upper class snob voice say
hello ___ your last name___ house hold, how may i help you
your friends will crap when they think you have a maid answering
it works great on sales ppl
the other one is get a kid about 12-15 to answer the phone
sales ppl hate this
they come up with the smart *** comments only kids can think up

I usually pick up the phone and say "What the f**k do you want?!" If I pick it up, and it's for someone else, I tell them to hold on, then I blow up a baloon and pop it and yell "Augh! I've been shot!" and then I hang up the phone.

Try something different every time. I like to pick up and not say anything. When they finally ask why I didn't say hello I ask why I'm the one who has to say hello first anyways? It leads to some pretty interesting conversation.

I would quote Dignam from The Departed:
"Why don't we just meet up sweetheart, let me buy you an ice cream."
Even better would be from Hannibal:
"Is this Clarice? Well Hello Clarice."
