Some Ethopian kids in at my school we're really making me mad today. I was wearing a t-shirt with Africa on it and it had a the Black power fist on it. And these 4 Ethpoian girls had stopped me and said. "You're not a real African why are you wearing our continent on your shirt." And they were saying that I'm just a "stupid Carribbean *****" and they called me a "outsider" I ignored the comments but my friend was really mad because she from Trinidad andshe had almost fought these group of girls. I felt really hurt because I've been getting this from a lot of African folks around DC. I have a friend from Ghana and she says that "we're all African, but some of us have been taken from the motherland." She made me feel better and she says those girls are just ignorant. I feel horrible when I hear things like this from my own people. Even though I'm part Dominican i still she myself as a African American or a Black person. My question is to you, What should we call outselves now

Iam African and I say them girls who stopped you are just plain ignorant. their not real africans because anybody that is would be proud that you would be wearing such a power continent on your shirt that has such a powerful meaning to it. Africans been through alot being controlled and not being able to drink water without permission from a white man in their own country and dont forget dying for the blood of black people to be free and gain independence in their own country and look at the things were going through now people sayin we created aids and such, so all of us are not like them ethiopian girls, there the ones that dont know who they are anymore because real africans dont act like that.

You should only call yourself what you are and nothing else. You have a blood of a African even though you were not born their your still a African besides every black person who's from Dominican republic or anwhere else is somehow linked to Africa just like your friend said were all africans, so dont let them girls fool u their just jeolous that your more african then they are (and i mean in how you act) . You are u no matter what and you are a beautiful carribean African.

Your a human, one who lives in America and one who is a citizen here. Therefore your American, I am from Mexico but as soon as I crossed the border I got naturalized and became a citizen I am proud to say I'm American, not Mexican American just American. In reality unless your from Africa your not African and for those girls if there in the states now guess what, they are now American too. There is no color on that no religion or anything. Be proud of that because there are a lot of people who died so that you could be American!

BET telavision had a show on the 25 worst things in Black history Number one was slavery. Up there in the Top ten was Racism agianst there own race. Dark skin light skin the whole deal.
Racism will never go away until people start to call themselves HUMAN as long as you identify yourself with the color of your skin then you are a racist. It is just common sense.
I am a human being. I have a proud family history I tell my children about. Im not saying we forget History Im saying the only way the human race can survive is if we all start being human.
There are no sides on a round planet.

You are an American weather your family came from Africa or China- those girls would start with you no matter what. The color of your skin is just another part of what makes you who you are and wherever you're family comes from only adds to it. You should do a little research on where your roots are - not just where you came from, but their traditions and beliefs. Here we tend to call anybody with dark skin "African American" because it's politically correct and nobody wants to offend anybody. Good luck and forget about those girls!

Why would you want to be associated with Africa? Africans are typically poor, ignorant, AIDS-infested Moslems ready to die for or because of a dictator.

Smile. You are an American. Remember...someone died to make you free. Toss the tshirt and get one with an American Flag!

I have alot of african friends, (ghana, kenya, ethiopia, senegal, etc) and I have never had anyone be anything less than kind to me. They always tell me I have an african soul, and Im white! So maybe these girls are jealous of you or something that would cause them to act in this way towards you. Just ignore them and keep wearing what you want to wear, and represent your african heritage!

So, what, arent you allowed to support the struggles of people from other nations? The whole point is to stop hating people based on where they are from....so, maybe they're *really* good at geography....why do they need to put you down? maybe someone thinks they are 'stupid ethiopians' (I'm just saying....) my point is call yourself "American". You're from wherever you're from and people who judge you based on appearances are people with very small minds. the fact that you know this treatment is wrong proves you are a better person than they are. they will waste a lot of energy trying to prove to themselves they are 'worth' anything, save your energy for something else :)

The fist is a symbol of the Black panthers (a hate group). My ancestors are from a different country. I don't say I'm Irish-American or German-American etc. I say I am American. I wasn't born over there.

If you go back far enough, all black people are from Africa. So technically you are African. Don't listen to what they say because they are completely wrong.
