I have to do a term paper for my History class about Thomas Jefferson and his domestic issues/political policies and how his decisons went against his principles but were beneficial to the nation and vice versa. This is my introduction, tell me what u think and how i can change it to make it better:

Thomas Jefferson: the third president of our United States, author of the Declaration of Independence, former governor of Virginia, author of the Virginia statue for religous freedom, and much much more. Despite these great accomplishments, Jefferson also made decisions that were not considered honorable and virtuous in the eyes of the people. During his presidency, Jefferson made decisions that were considered to be "political suicide" and also made him look like a hypocrite. For example, Jefferson preached equal rights for man yet was a slave owner himself. He also refused to suport Hamilton's idea of a National Bank but he was suffering (check the additonal details)

Jefferson was dismayed by the direction the nation took under the Federalist presidents. His vision for America was one of small independent farmers, but when he came to power he realized that America was going into an industrial age. So he did two things that were against his original principles: he maintained the Hamiltonian economic policies that favored industry and he engaged in partisan politics, which was frowned upon in those days.

Frankly, it was not political suicide when Jefferson was alive to own slaves and preach equal rights for men. It was pretty standard.

TJwas a great politician, and despite all of that they may talk about, a great politician makes sure that things get done. In the words of Harry Truman, they practice the art of the possible.

He was a politician who did things he didn't believe in just to get elected. But I would say it sounds pretty good for a paper. Your grade will really depend on the political leanings of your teacher. Whether we like it or not, the teacher's political outlook colors their acceptance or rejection of homework that relates to a political idea.
