Computer connections to the internet?

Is the 1394 connection a must if you are running a hard line into your laptop? Also I am in Iraq and want my internet to run faster, other than turning off firewalls and virus protection what can make it run faster?

1394 is an optional connection you do not need it to have internet. about the speed, it all depends on your service provider not your computer.
