We want to replace our Hotpoint condensing tumble dryer for a vented tumble dryer, hopefully a lot quieter than the Hotpoint as our downstairs area is very open plan and the noise from it is annoying. We would like a minimum 6kg dryer, but the noise is the main thing. Any ideas? Thank you.

Have you tried consulting one of the Which guides? They are an independent consumer group that provides unbiased consumer guides.

In the alternative (alternative 1), I believe that when you look at items now they show the number of decibels (as part of the rating card). The lower the count, the quieter the machine.

Alternative 2. Bear in mind that the type of floor on which the appliance sits can have a bearing on how loud it is! Hard floors tend to make the appliance sound a great deal louder because it will vibrate more. Cheats way to reduce vibration is to put a mat/piece of carpet under it to absorb the movement and ensure that the appliance has been leveled on the floor (most appliances have adjustable feet).

I hope this helps.
