One for sorrow, two for joy;
Three for a girl, four for a boy;
Five for silver, six for gold;
Seven for a secret, never to be told;
Eight for a wish, nine for a kiss;
Ten for a bird that's best to miss.
For the 70's and 80's kids program 'Magpie' the last line was changed to: "Ten is for a bird you must not miss .. magpie!"

There's also the ones that start
1 for Sorrow
2 for Mirth
3 for a funeral
4 for a birth
etc etc.

I don't know about magpies, but the counting crows rhyme goes like this:
One crow sorrow,
two crows joy,
three crows a girl,
four crows a boy,
five crows silver,
six crows gold,
seven crows a secret,
never to be told.
eight crows a wish,
nine crows a kiss,
ten crows a time
of joyous bliss.
