My fiance works in a catering business. A new man has been hired and he's constantly hitting on her, asking her out and such. My fiance didn't want to say anything due to not wanting to cause trouble at work, but it's causing problems at work, and at home. I called her boss to speak with her about this man and the next day, my fiance is threatened with being fired over my actions. I wasn't rude or anything. So my question is, is there anyplace I can report her employer to for this? I'm pretty sure, it's not right to threaten to fire a woman if she says something about being harassed. Can I call the police about it, the labor board or what? Any ideas? (I live in Indiana...and failing this, I'm hunting the guy down to beat him to within an inch of his life)

All nicey nice talk about telling labor boards etc, but this is probably the least likely harassment to prove.
Legally, under fedeal guidelines defining harassment, there is more than just sexual in workplace, the woman has to tell the other person when to stop and sets the line. Asking once or even twice without the woman saying a definate no is not harassment
the first time afterwards is yet not harassment if same answer given, the third time constitutes harassment, a pattern, is formed.
Right then is still not enough to get leagal but if the third time occurs then that is a definate case.
Remember each time must reply with a definate no.
You do not have to tell them you will go to supervisor if he doesn't stop, just report in writing to supervisor. If a witness is avalable so much better,
Do not allow it to remain a verbal between you and super and if he will not take it down in writing go above them if you can. If at a franchise get hold of License Agency, Subway etc and file against supervisor or even franchise holder.
File with a state agency, in most cases it will not be handled as bureaucats make more excuses than do the supevisors and almost always take supervisors word over yours.
Victim must always remain composed, never threaten legal action on your own
You the boyfriend or whatever stay out of it completly, a threat or even interference by you can get her fired befroe she can file a charge.
Laws on what employees can say about employers is very well defined by even Supreme Court.
Help by being macho and sympathetic towards friend.
Even after you have filed with state it may continue, document every time and find others who either witness or have been treated in same way.
I am always surprised by those who have never been in a position of being harassed in work place as to how little they actually know what constitutes harrassment.
Telling a woman she looks nice today, or her hair looks better as she has a diferent sytle etc is not harassment, but mentioning that dress makes her boobs or her *** look nice is a definate no- no!
Speaking of boobs some guys never learn and will always be an ***.
In almost every state a pattern must be shown to prove harassment, where it is deliberate to make one quit or done constanlty to make one feel uncomfortable and impinges on job capability.
Whatever you do do not let them say lets just keep this in family and not make waves it isn't just you you are protesting for but the next poor john or jane who finds themselves in that position.
Document , Document, Document and get state involved at all cost!
She will still get fired but it will be for some BS like safety or not able to do her job.
Thats the real world and unless you work for GOV where everyone is either screwing the other person or so tied up in Conflict resolution theorys to mention it, thats the way it is.

Yes. and you have done it, the first thing you need to do is request to see the contract you signed with your employer and then ask what grounds you have been suspended for. they need to go through that with you before you sign that suspension notice. they cannot force you to sign any documents however you can be dismissed for not signing the documents. i could continue but there is no point .there are 2 things to do 1) speak to your rep for the workers union 2) what you do is go too your local court house and there is a form you can get there you fill it out and submit it to the court there is a charge i think its about $100 to take the matter further and then you state the case in court. lets face it tho ..if u stuffed up at work and u got suspended for a valid reason there isn'tt much you can do

You definitely have a case. If the employer won't handle it properly, contact their HR department their (assuming they have one). After that, all you can do is get a lawyer. Be careful if all the evidence you have is word of mouth, as that will probably get dismissed in court as hearsay. It's really ashame the employer is not handling the situation properly...

is this new man in a position of authority to your wife at the business? if not if equal or hes below her she should grow some balls so to speak and tell him, look i dont like you, i have a husband, i tell my husband about how you act and if you dont stop their will be a formal report filed. it seems shes taking the harrassement and going home to complain. when she should be opening her mouth and speaking up to the guy. has she personally said something to the boss, or just leave that up to you. she needs to take action not run home to hubby and hope he takes care of it

I would have your girlfriend call the labor board and advise them, and also file a complaint with the police. You can't handle this one, she has to. Good effort though, I'd have done the same thing.

She should look for another job. Even if you hire a lawyer or whatever and successfully deal with the problem, the working environment will be awkward from then on.

You should have let her handle it. And beating on the guy will definitely get her fired, and get you arrested.
