I don't see the rest of your problem. However, it sounds like you need to remember your order of operations. Here's a trick.
Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. It stands for
Parenthesis ()
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction
So...start with the operations in parenthesis, then figure out any exponents before moving on to multiplication, then division, then addition, and finally subtraction. You'll have your answer.
