If/when you purchase a FAX machine, it should come with a printed User's Guide.
If you have a FAX modem, you can FAX from your computer.
To see if you have this capability:
go to Start
Settings
Control Panel
Add/Remove -- you are going to click on "components" not programs
click on components
put the cursor on the right scroll button and carefully look down the list for FAX
If you see it, click it and Add
You should get an icon on the desktop for the "FAX console" or something like it. If not, go to Start, Programs. Look for the FAX and create a shortcut for the desktop. It comes in handy. You will have to "configure" the FAX.
Now, you can open a Word document, and to send it as a FAX, you File, Print. Click the down arrow next to the name of the printer and select the FAX.
A word of caution: On my computer, if a FAX fails, if the line is busy, the FAX will sit in the outbox. The next time I power on the FAX will try to go out before Windows is loaded and my PC freezes. If you ever have a FAX fail, go to the outbox of the console and delete it. You will not be deleting the Word doc and can try sending it again from there.
