First of all, I am not of the mindset that agrees with parents spanking children for any reason at any age. Spanking in this day and age could also be called a form of child abuse in the eyes of authorities so one has to be careful how discipline is handled. I have found that doing so does not accomplish anything except alienating the child from the parent who does the spanking, making the child more defiant, and creating a vicious cycle that only invites more spanking. One is better off trying other methods of discipline (i.e. timeouts) depending upon what the child has done wrong in the eyes of the parent. Spanking is certainly no way to win over the trust of the child and make him or her understand that you are disciplining them for a good reason and because you love them.

Well I would have to speak on my personal experience but I remember the very last time my dad " spanked " me - I was probably around 10 or 11 and I sat there and took it .. didn't even cry .. told him I hated him and said you can't hurt me - even if you tried ... after that I think he realized I was old enough to take things into my own hands ... and I think he got scared I would tell on him or something ... it made him feel worse since I flat out told him hitting me wouldn't change my mind or what I did ... I think once the child is old enough to hit back and start fights it's time to re-think your punishments ... !

I think spankings should stop at around 7 or 8. Sometimes time-out or telling them to go to their room doesn't work.

Your a sick man if you spank your children you have control issues and so many other issues which you need help with not your children.i hate any parent who spanks their child and personally if either of my parents ever spanked me i would hate them forever.thats the truth.i hate parents who spankt heir children.
