It's the same with gambling, - on average, - there may be only a 10% chance of getting pregnant, - but then they say, "I can always get an abortion".

So if they were responsible and had integrity in the first place, then there wouldn't even be a chance of getting into trouble. But by it's very nature, and teen-age dreaminess, sex is doing what you feel like, when and where. So don't expect 'thinking' in a non-thinking event.

Well I am 19 and pregnant but to make your question sound less ignorant, you should not say "teens", some"teens" are married and independent and well-aware of the consequences of unprotected sex. Some teens even plan pregnancy. So if you mean to say, if you are not financially, mentally and spiritually ready for a kid, then why not take advantage of all the help to prevent having one, then say that. Condoms and pills are not 100 % effective. Some teens are raped. Some teens cannot get to the places to get free pills. And honestly, some are just dumb and do not know what theyre are gettng into. But I,personally, was one of the people that was "in love" and choose not to use protection (still knowing the consequences) but that is me...not all teens..not all blacks...just ME. Everyones situation (regardless of age, etc) is different.

I know what you mean. With all the contraception and stuff you would think they would be able to prevent it. In my town there are centres where you can get condoms and stuff for free up until 25 and you can get the "morning after pill" if something does go wrong, i guess they dont think about their actions and wont realise until its to late. They should about it as: "its much cooler to wear a condom than to catch a STD or get pregnant and have to have a baby".
Also in the UK sometimes some teens get pregnant just so they can get benfits to stay in a council flat. sad but true

well for starters most of you seem to think that teenagers dont think of getting pregnant "it'll never happen to me" attitude that teenagers are stupid irresponsible things. well let me tell you i never adopted that attitude when i was a teenager. i fell pregnant at 16 but i was in a loving stable relationship and im still with the babies father today.and i have always been independant and never relied on my parent bringin them up i have always done it myself. How can teenagers get pregnant? i was on the pill and fell pregnant.you cant take any pain relief ,antibiotics, be sick or have diarrhoea cant miss a pill over 12 hours late. Unfortunatly some people do fall ill when on this and do fall pregnant. Now i have two sons and my eldest has a serious heart condition which ,unfortunatly, there is no cure for and if i had my time over again i wouldnt want to change a thing. My sons are the best thing that ever happened to me. i just find it really appalling at the fact you all seem to think were all stupid , careless and irrseponsible. By the sounds of it some of you need to grow up and change your attitude. I for one thank my lucky stars for every day i have with my children for i know it wont be for long.......

I started having sex at 14 and got on the pill at 15. Even though I was on birth control I still got pregnant at 17. It is possible. I do agree with you though. I don't get why people are not responsible and go to Planned Parenthood and get free condoms or go to the doc and get some Birth contol!

Us teenagers are known for our "sheer stupidity" and "lack of common sense" that part of our brain hasn't fully developed so we don't usually think about things before we do them.

Most teenagers get "caught up in the moment" so they follow their heart and body before they follow their head. Most of us have this "it can't happen to me" thought rocess, and in a way they are right but only if they aren't having sex as a teenager.

Most teens don't take advantage of the resources they have now a days, they are basically spoiled rotten, but don't really know it. They are afraid of what there parents would say and think of them when they found out their teenager was having sex, but the thing is, parents would firstly prefer you didn't have sex, but they'd rather you practice safe sex instead of unprotected sex. If you got pregnant and they didn't know you were having sex period, things would be a lot worse than it would have been, had they told their parents or at least said they were using condoms or pills.

All of this is basically lack of common sense, they know the risks, but they don't actually "know it know it". Once they get pregnant or hiv/aids, or another std, then it will finally dawn on them.

The only thing is, something bad shouldn't have to happen to them in order for them to realize they are in a world they don't belong in(sex world).

sorry, but if u had condoms with u it kinda makes me think u planned it...and anyway, do u think every girl PLANS to have sex? i know my 1st time wasn't planned full stop, hardly woke up that morning thinking "right..i'm guno do him 2day"
plus some girls are too shy to go family planning clinics, or doctors. i know i was. its not 100% the teens faults. as time change we're learning to talk about sex, but for teens its still quite a taboo to talk to elders about it because they kno the moment they do, they'll get shot down in flames. trust a parents n they'll never look at them in the same way, a teacher n then they both feel weird in lessons. what we need is basically 'sex councillers' at school where an appointment is made for students and its complusery to go. don't have to talk about sex, but they are tehre if needed. hopefully tehre wouldn't b a stigmatism about going to the sex counciller...but i'm pretty sure tehre would be

Well, some kids arent that smart or have condoms on them at all times. And teens dont realize what they are doing until it is too late. If it is such a peeve of yours you should get a law degee and try to pass a law on the fact that all teen girls need to take the pill and have condoms on them at all times...lol...but you also have to remember that some parents are very religious and pregnancy prevention is a sin, so the only pregnancy prevention they are "allowed" to use is abstenence-and you can imagine how well that works.

some teenage pregnancies occur even when the teenagers involved have been careful, you cant tar all teens with the same brush. Alot of young girls are scared to get the pill or condoms incase their mums and dads find out so thats another issue. also you have the issue of sexual abuse and rape and of course the group of teenagers poorly educated about sex/contraception and the ones who crave a baby usually for some reason related to their childhood.

mainly it's because they want to get pregnant, usually it's because they think when they have a baby , they will be loved unconditionally, that the baby won't have a choice whether it loves them or not, it's bacause of the disfunctional family they grew up in. they have babies for all the wrong reasons. sometimes it's to make sure they have an attachment to that person for the rest of their life, and it isn't only teens that do that, hormones can make people do things that aren't sane but seem like a really good idea at the time.
