1. explain to them how you will pay for it.
2. explain to them exactly how it will be used.
3. tell them they can keep it all the time except for specific times when THEY WANT YOU to use it (like calling them to come pick you up). that you would not be in possession of it
4. explain to them how they can be totally protected from you running up bills (because you are a minor they are responsible and many parents have gotten stuck with big bills).
5. if you can't do these things you are probably not responsible enough to have a cell phone.

Use the house phone all the time. My wife has been adamant that our 11 yr old daughter cannot have a cell phone until she is in the eighth grade (sixth now). But today she remarked that she needs her own cell phone, since she stays on the house phone all the time with her friends, or they continually call back and forth.

First of all...You shouldn't beg...Just ask. If they don't feel comfortable putting you on a real plan..tell them about all the great phones that are pre-paid. And since you are probably to young to get a job, to get money for your phone tell them that you will do chores and stuff...

ask them to get you a prepaid one or one that can be limited on use time, numbers called and tracked on your whereabouts...that way should you ever have an emergency or need them to come get you immediately you have a way to reach them and they have a way to reach you.....with all the crazy people out there nowadays it's never to safe for a child to be out there on their own....even at their schoolbus stops...we hear about children being abducted on the way to or away from their busstops all the time
