Use a putty knife or other tool to abrade the paper and get little holes and tears in it. Espescially concentrate on getting your edges peeled up a little bit.

Then take a bucket of steaming hot, soapy water and apply it quickly with a sponge. Let it sit for a few minutes to soak into the paper and start lifting the glue, then scrape it off while it's still wet and warm.

This isn't an answer but I thought I would just share this with you. My bf. and I went into a wallpaper shop the other day and in the corner behind a glass frame was a sample of some wallpaper that had been taken off an old house built sometime in the 1800's. It showed more than 50 layers of wall paper that had just been piled, one on top of the other. Bet your glad you don't have to deal with that.

If you don't want to rent a steamer, which is probably the best way to remove wall paper, you can check at your local paint, hardware store or home center for materials and tools made especially for wallpaper removal. With any luck, there will be someone working there who has had experience and can help you with your selection.

Yes a steamer, but if you can pull the vinyl layer off first and you have the paper backing left on take a spray bottle with hot water and saturate the paper backing, wait a couple minutes and scrape with a wide stiff putty knife. Once all your paper is off remember to get all glue residue off so you'll get a nice paint job. I suggest for a primer using a product called Shields made by Zinseer this way any residue left won't mess up your paint job. Good luck

Get a small yard sprayer and fill it with warm water and detergent. Spray the wall paper at least twice and let it soak for at least one day. Wall paper is never easy, but it works pretty good this way.
