Definitely Sheffield. Thomas has had the better career but he's never won a World Series and (though obviously it wasnt the case last year) he's more injury-prone. Sheffield can at least still play the field for the most part, Thomas is stuck at DH-only. As far as quality teammates it seems like both of them can be jerks in the clubhouse at times but they're also both a veteran presence.

Gary Sheffield because he can still play in the outfield and he is stil a danger hitter who can hit the long ball, get on base and hit for power too.
Frank Thomas can only hit home runs, and he doesn't get many extra base his anymore besides HR's. He cant play in the infield anymore. But he is the best DH in the America league, but he is also getting older and his numbers would go down this year with the Blue jays
So i would rather have Sheffield who is going to have a great year for the tigers this year and he would also be thie everyday DH for what i understand, he will hit between 30 or 40 HR's and he would also have between 90 and 110 RBI's

Both are older players who hit for power. Sheffield came off an injury and will now be playing for the Tigers. Thomas came off a hot season and will now be playing for the Blue Jays.
Both should get on base the same amount of times, but Thomas will hit for a higher slugging, while Sheffield would hit for average a bit better.
While Sheffield can still play the field reasonably well and can still threaten a steal or two, I'd suggest Thomas as a hitter, and marginally choose Thomas overall.

I would personally do with Gary Sheffield, Thomas is a good hitter, but lacks consisteny. Sheffield, is a consistent hitter, and you can count on him, to get a hit, RBI, or home run each time he comes up to the plate. Also, Sheffield can play defence, Thomas's last year in Oakland, he was a DH. Being a DH probably slowed down his fielding, if he decides to play positions, and try to win MVP. So my choice, is Gary Sheffield.

gary sheffield for the following reasons: sheffield can still play defense and he also has a very good arm in the outfield and can contribute on offense. thomas is a good hitter but he cannot play the field.

Thomas. He plays in a hitter's park. Sheffield is in a pitcher's park.
Also, Thomas will be surrounded by V. Wells and Glaus in the lineup. Sheffield will be between Ordonez and Guillen (?).

Gary Sheffield, he is still one of the most feared hitters in the game. He also is getting a fresh start with Detroit and Jim Leyland. He will play with a chip on his shoulder after being traded by the Yankees.
