Hi you must realise that you had a fractured ankle and these do eatime to heal and get bck to normal, this isnt a quick healing process.Fractures take time to heal also the tissues, muscles etc surrounding the area all has to heal too.Theres nothing you can do to make the healing process quicker just take things easy, eat plenty off diary, fruit, veg.Carry on with the physio you will get there in the end dont rush things thou, the healing process does tke time im affraid.

I had a bad ankle break once too. Very painful. Afraid you can only do what the phsio recommends.....though I had to relax in the hosp pool .....this was put forward as very good for the healing process (we're not talking abt swimming here, just lying on my back and taking the weight off the leg!!). I was still having phsio one year later 3 times a week, and then they said "NO, its not bending enough", so I had to go in as a day case and under anaesthetic they just bent and moved my ankle round quite a lot. It helped. But that was the limit of what could be done. After that it was just a case of "time". But I was warned that one day (when I'm old...) I'll be back, with arthritis in the ankle and prob needing an op to sort it out.....................

Poor you, the best thing you can do is do the exercises the physio will have recommended you do daily. Don't try and over do it tho as you will possibly cause damage to the healing bone and set yourself back a bit. Are you still on painkillers? if not, maybe you have been taken off them too early? It is frustrating but you will not be in this situation forever. Good luck and i hope you are up and about very soon. X

Physiotherapy is key during rehabilitation from any fracture and thus carrying out the prescribed exercises is vital to make your recovery as speedy as possible. You must realise that there are many factors that affect recovery time - type of fracture sustained (some can have greater effects on surrounding tissue) and age (the older you are the longer it will take for recovery) to name but two. Light exercise such as walking (if you can tolerate it) would also benefit you to improve mobility in the joint but I wouldn't go and do the 100m anytime soon!
As for the pain, if it is unbearable then you should go back and see your GP. If you are no longer on painkillers, I doubt that you were "taken off them too early" as the individual above suggested. Dependency on such medication can occur when taken for long periods thus overuse is bad. Hope this helps

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I broke my ankle a few years back..
3 breaks and a dislocation...I fell UP the stairs.
3 months off work and still took a long time before I could walk properly...over 2 years before I could even touch it. (very tender)
.And I am sure my foot was not put back straight...my toes point to the right when I straighten my leg...it just dont seem to match up.
If you have nuts and bolts and bits of metal holding it together.
...STAY AWAY FROM COLD WATER...it all freezes up and is VERY painful.
I found this out when I went for a paddle in the sea.

eat healthy food, drink lots of water, keep going with the exercises, even try to do some easy ones at home if they havent already given you some to do, have a positive attitude about everything. Having fun, being in a good mood, and having a positive attitude toward life can always help.
