I tend to be situationally appropriate trying to use language and manners that match the people and place. We always have a choice and it's good to use common sense.

I don't call people sir, and in my experience... women don't like to be called ma'am... so I don't do that. I'm friendly and respectful but not proper the way you described.

I am EXTREMELY articulate!!!! i was in communicatins in the legal field for over 20 years!!! So......I had to , it was mandatory to have an excellent grasp of the language and really HEAR what people wanted , often reading between the lines when they spoke. However when i am off.....I tend to relax...thjough my friends say that i do not...lol...but i think i sound like i am still at work!!!! Many people have confused me with TV and radio personalities on the basis of how my speech is!!! Great question!!!! Thanks!!!

Here where I live you call everybody you know by their first name:we are used to it.Unknown people you address with madam or sir,
Always try to be helpful, polite, use normal language:no streettalk to no one,etc etc,
But with people I KNOW WE HAVE THE BEST OF TIMES,FUN ETC,
DROPS.

I was raised as a southern lady. I'm respectful, I'm polite, and I'm articulate. But that doesn't mean I'm not silly and completely retarded from time to time.

I try to be as polite as I can be with everyone I meet. But I am only human, so I slip occassionally.
