The reaction is cause it's not something everyone does, everyone cuts their hair, but not everyone will shave their head. Your just used to a person looking one way and then whoaa.. you shaved your head... In Spears case, she's had her hair for so long and with all the publicity and her actions of late, it was a surprise and people take it from her as a plea for help or publicity stunt..

It ain't all that crazy. It does stand out though. I did it for a few years, and I'll probably end up going back (judging from my father's ever-increasing bald spot!).
I guess it's wilder for ladies to do it than men. But some ladies can pull it off if they're cute in the face regardless of their hairstyle. Jada Pinkett Smith (in Set It Off, Tales from the Crypt) & Natalie Portman (in V for Vandetta) immediately come to mind.
Britney just wants some attention. That's why she dropped KFed without warning and why she's hitting the town with no panties on, too.

I don't know what to tell you. I'M not crazy and people don't think I am. It is a bit of a change but it's much better than having ring-around-the-damn-scull. Yes, I get looks now; I'm a little more distinctive, but I received looks before too.
Do it, dude! You can always grow the darn stuff back!

It isn't crazy, it is even hot a man to shave his head but it is odd to see a woman bald.

Because it isn't something that women normally do. Women take pride in their hair and when they shave it like that it is usually a cry out that something is wrong or bothering them. It is something drastic that a woman can do to draw attention to herself.

Brittney probably did it to avoid drug testing, which the father of her children was threatening to get custody. Crazy? No, but she is a poor excuse for a person.

bcuz ur hair is special, u stick with it thruout life. but u do have a point. If someone shaves their head, don't freak- it'll grow back.

It's very unusual for a woman to do it. Our hair is a very big thing for us. Plus the Manson Family girls all did it and we know how wacky they were.
