Probably for the same reason there are no Spike Lee films about ice skating and skiing.

I'm guessing you may be referring to animated movies because there have been several live action Disney movies with black characters.

Well, "Song of the South" used animals, but was supposed to reflect the black community in the South. Needless to say, in the present day, it is considered very racist, and has not been shown often, if at all. To my knowledge, it has never been released on VHS or DVD for that reason. The only reason I know anything about it is because I've done a little research on Disney and there are some rides at the parks based on the movie.

"The Lion King" also used animals, but many of the voices were done by black actors and the music was African inspired. That has to count for something.

Why Disney has not come up with an animated flick featuring black characters since that time, I don't know, but it probably would be a good idea for them to come up with something. The world is full of good fairy tales and legends that need to be told!

Disney is actually coming out with a new animated movie called The Princess and the Frog. In this film, which is set in 1920s New Orleans, the lead character, Tiana, is African American. Its release date is scheduled for sometime in 2009. That is all I have heard about the film so far. Hopefully this film will be a breakthrough for Disney and save other parents from the tough decision you are trying to make.

Why do you want Disney to make an African American movie? Just about all their animated movies are inaccurate historically and even their "made-up" ones are derived from better, much scarier or very much adult fairy tales.

Their live action movies fair better and, in that case, Jump In! did just come out.

And can I say that Lion King and Jungle Book doesn't actually have black people in it. Voice over actors do NOT count. Geesh.

And God knows I love Cuba Gooding Jr. but Snow Dogs is not a good portrayal of African Americans. Their "kiddie" movies with people like Raven Simone and Corbin Bleu are the closest you are going to get and they aren't half bad.

Actually there are Asian ones (Mulan and Mulan 2), Middle Eastern (Aladin), Indian (Jungle Book), Native (Pocahantus) European (Tarzan) and even Island Pacific (Lilo from Lilo and Stitch could be considered a Pacific Islander by some).

Well referring to the cartoons you would have to look at the time periods some of those Disney movies were made. The oldest ones were probably made in the 1930's,and back then there was a slim chance you'd see a African American character as a lead character.

MESSAGE!!! (famous line from "Don't Be a Menace")

...and why when we're discussing BLACK movies everyone brings up Lion King...I ain't no dang ol' Lion!

I agree that Disney is way past due on the African American animated motion picture.

I, personally, don't count the Disney Channel movies. But there is one coming out. Not sure of the reason why they didn't have any before this.

There is, the new movie from Corbin bleu is about double dutching. I think most of the cast are african american so i think you can consider that african american/black disney movie.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH....

Ok, so Disney hasn't made any movies of African American/Black ethnicity. That doesn't mean they have to. There's no law saying that they have to. This isn't meant to sound rascist, but it's true. They could start at any time. The whole point is, if you want them to make one, then there has to be a demand for one great enough to influence their marketing council.

MAKE A LARGE ENOUGH REQUEST (not demanding, whining, begging, pleading, or negative commands in any way) and get your request to the right ears, and they should be at least willing to listen.

In the end, it's really up to them, and whether or not they think there's money to be made in it.

THE BIGGEST REASON DISNEY HASN'T MADE ONE
IS ALL THE LAWSUITS RAISED AGAINST WARNER
BROTHERS CARTOONS FOR THE RASCIST BANTER
IN BUG'S BUNNY CARTOONS....

They probably don't want to deal with it.

Don't worry, Disney is producing a new Princess movie in which the princess is African American.

The movie is called The Frog Princess.

Yeah they did ..it was called Remember the Titans with Denzal Washington. That was a movie made by Disney. If you mean cartoons like Lion King and Aladin..then i don't know why that is.
