what is t in: -1/t-4=8 and how does this work?

I am feeling like and idiot right now, but I still don't understand how this works, so if somone could be more explanatory that would be great

Also, the -4 following the t is under the division sign, which is difficult to tell given the circumstances. This problem is better written as -1/(t-4)=8

dont feel like an idiot, i think i can help u. FIRST, the idea is to get the t by itself. So u want mutiply, the 8 on the other side by -1. Thefore it will be left with (t-4)= -8. then just add the four over. Giving u t is equal to -4.
