I'm 17 and my parents buy me clothes when ever i need them, i go to boarding school but come home every weekend and sometimes I find clothes my mom got me as presents.

When I was little she always baught me pink frilly dresses(when i was like 10 ehh) that I never wore but now shes started getting things more..me

My brother is 19 1/2 living by himself since 6months ago but if he needs new clothes my parents buy them for him.

The rule basically is that when we need something we will get it as long as its not a $100 t-shirt and if we just want a certain piece of clothing then we work for it like help around the house or pay half/half that's if its expensive for what it is($100 isn't expensive for jeans but for a top it would be). If we want clothes to go out as long as we don't ask every weekend we'll get it.

13 is defiantly too young to make someone buy their own clothes..where can they get the money?? I guess if you buy them most their clothes but just make them get the extra fancy stuff that's ok

My mom did that. She chilled off on that with 2 reasons. One, I never wore the clothes she bought. She said she wasn't going to spend money on clothes I wasn't going to wear.

The second reason was, there were times when I had enough money to buy some of my own clothes, an outfit or something. She kind of got an idea for my "taste" and style in clothing, and will occassionally buy me something, or if I need something for a dance she will go and look into it and see if she can get me what I described to her.

You should go shopping with your teenager, this way you can see what they like and what they don't lile and also you aren't really " getting" their clothes, just supplying the money for it.

Most parents try to get things that are cute, conservative or what ever, and not realizing this can cause a dispute between the two of you. Just ask them what they like to wear, maybe a style or brand and take them with you.

Hi. I am a 17 (soon to be 18 year old) and my mom sometimes helps me to buy clothes. I'm not like a lot of teenagers who want the newest jeans or newest shirt or all that mess. I just need regular clothes and work clothes. Sometimes my mom helps me to buy clothes when I am short on cash, but I always pay her back.

My mother insisted on buying my clothes until I was 17 or so. The first time I bought a top with my own money (I think I was 18), you'd have thought I bought something a whore would wear, when in fact it was a rather ordinary-looking red-and-white striped girl's T-shirt! I'm 52 now, and I still remember that incident.

if your child buys her own clothes with "her" money, she has more control over what she wears. For most of today's fashions, that is a problem! I had a job at 14 and from then on, bought all my own clothes. My parents said little about what I did with that money. I know that I will do things much differently with my daughters.

If you're asking, should you give them money to pick their own? Well, yes and no! It would be a good experience for them to budget a set amount of money for the year, but all purchases should be approved by you and other parent.

What an opportunity to bond with your kid!
Take them out, one on one- give them $50 or whatever to pick out their own clothes, and go out for lunch! However, all final decisions about skirt length, baggy pants, or whatever must be approved by you! They will be the child's clothes and they certainly should be allowed to choose their style and comfort, but parents need to have the final word.

a 13 year old cannot work so you have to buy their clothes. When the teen gets a job then you ask them to buy their own clothes. If they have a healthy allowance they should also buy those special clothes that cost a fortune themselves.

My children are age 12 (youngest) and 13 (oldest), If I see an article of clothing I think they would like, then yes, I buy it for them as long as it doesn't cost to much.

My mom always bought my clothes at that age. I did work part time at 17 so I did buy extra stuff myself. I am almost 30 and my mom still picks me up stuff from time to time.

I'm 19 and still live at home (I'm in college). My mom "tries" to buy me clothes. LOL! She came home with a pack of underware...the huge granny style "brief" kind. LOL!! I told her i dont wanna wear them and she was like "there on sale!" I kinda laughed and she got mad and told me i was ungrateful and she was going to stop buying things for me! I was like i dont care you have no taste in clothes ANYWAY!

if you are trying to buy a teen some clothes don't. i can bet you they wont wear them.
