No it's not trick photography, the men are steel erectors and they clamber about on the girders for a living,it's an extremely dangerous job,but after a while they get so used to the heights and learning how to balance properly that they are totally at ease up there!!

It is a fine photo I suppose it may have been set up but I doubt if it is a trick photo as such ! why would a couple of blokes who work all day at height have any qualms about eating lunch in that position I have a photo of my grandfather sitting on the top of his crane cab having a smoke and a bottle of beer for dinner he was a crane driver at the local docks but in them days he only got a 15 minute break for lunch so it was easier and quicker to nip up onto the cab in the sun with a beer and his scran [ food] I like black and white pics of industrial history you can see how things have changed beer at work !!!??

its no camera trickery they were building the RKO building (i think) at the time and they were photographed having their lunch break. There are a few similar pictures like it one shows a worker playing golf on one of the girders.

yeah, crazy hah?
They used Native Americans a lot for those jobs too, they were not afraid of heights. Pretty impressive.

Its become a really popular and well known image, but yes, it is real. Don't suppose they'd allow it nowadays........."health and safety rules" would come down on them!
