Isn't that a bit ridiculous? They are trying to make it illegal for parents to spank their children.. what the hell? Children are going to be spoiled annoying little brats..They will intentionally try to make their parents mad so they can spank them and the child can turn them in..Is this proposal only in california?

Another case in point of liberals wanting to run our personal lives.

This was up for discussion but has now been withdrawn. Shudder to think that we would make a law that prevents parents from raising a child in the manner they choose. I personally am for spanking. I have three children, ages 27 to 14 and used this method of teaching when they were young. None of them have said they were abused by this method. When it is used as a teaching tool rather than out of anger, it is very effective.

According to a recent NBC pole, 85% of people said they thought spanking is a good tool in childraising.

According to AP:

"Anti-Spanking Bill Won't Pass, Lawmaker Says
No Proposal Could Stop Hitting With Objects

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Parents can still spank their children in California.

San Francisco Bay-area Assemblywoman Sally Lieber has abandoned her campaign to make spanking a crime.

She said she is still opposed to spanking, but Lieber said the votes just aren't there to change the law. Instead, she's introducing legislation that would make it a crime to hit children with such items as a belt, switch or stick.

Lieber's anti-spanking bill attracted nationwide attention.

Conservatives and family values groups criticized it as government interference in family matters, and it was the subject of a parody on "Saturday Night Live." "

It is ridiculous. I think it should be the parents decision if they want to spank their children. No smoking in public places started in California. They are always trying to set precedent for the rest of the country. I do believe that parents do need alternatives to spanking. Not all kids respond the same to all punishment. My brother for some time new that if he got a belt, but no grounding it was worth it.

There's a fine line between disciplining your kids and abusing them. Although you shouldn't be allowed to beat the s*** out of your kids, you should be able to spank them or give them a good smacking up if spanking alone doesn't do anything. If a good smacking up doesn't do it, send them to boot camp.
If we were disallowed to even spank our kids, the chaos we're in right now would triple by the next generation. It's unfortunate that so often, spanking is needed to discipline our offspring, but the alternative is much worse.

She gave it up. Now she is trying to make up a list that addresses when parents cross the line between punishment and abuse... but she's not going after making it illegal to spank kids anymore- It wouldn't have passed and she knows that

There are other ways of discipline, but I don't think any state should pass a law banning spanking. There is a difference between abusing your children, and a smack on the rear once in a while when they don't listen.

Ok now to be honest they are all retarded and just asking for more juveniles.. I have never spanked my kids and left any marks on them BUT let me tell you. I have seen parents who do that whole "thats not nice" or "mommy is talking and your being rude" to a fricken 3yr old. Now if all our 3yr olds were that intelligent we would have less deviants in society. I was in the store the other day and this child probably about 6yrs old told his mom to shut up and get her fat butt out of his way. She turned to him and said Nathan thats now how we talk. He then said shut up. Ok that child would have got his butt spanked right there in the store and thanks to her we can now look forward to Nathan in his teen years terrorizing society and later into the adult justice system.. Yes excellent idea lets all talk our kids to death! Yep that will turn them all around.. pleaseeeee get a grip

figures it would be california. There is a difference between spanking your child and beating them. If more children had discipline these days, everyone would be better off.

Spanking should be legal. I think it's just as serious that parents don't discipline their kids enough. Granted, there are cases where parents do take it too far. It's that fuzzy gray area no one can agree on.

I think that is the problem with kids today. Parents and schools alike can not disaplin the way they should. I am not saying it is rite to beat a kid but a swat on the butt is sometimes needed. I have 2 little boys and let me tell you that they need it once and awhile to stay in line.

It will never happen. If a kid gets out of line after numerous outbursts he/she should be spanked. I'd like to see it brought back in schools.
