There are three main differences between mitosis and meiosis.

1. Mitosis causes a division of the cell and causes the birth of 2 daugther cells. Meiosis does not, the chromosomes divide not the the cell.

2. Meiosis causes a division of the chromosomes, from a 2n to n (diploid to haploid). Mitosis is the process where cells are divided so, each cell is haploid until Meiosis occurs.

3. Meiosis has 2 majors stages: Meiosis I and II. While Mitosis, only has one stage with four phases Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase.

4. In Mitosis, The centromeres are split during anaphase. However, this does not occur Meiosis.

5. Mitosis has one single division producing 2 cells. Meiosis has 2 divisions which creates 4 new products.

Good luck! I put a few more so you can pick and choose which ones you would like to use.

meiosis produces haploid cells. mitosis produces diploid cells. meiosis involved pairing of homologous pairs. mitosis doesn't. meiosis produces 4 daughter cells. mitosis produces only 2. crossing over occurs in meiosis and not mitosis.

as she said

Mitosis ends in two cells that are diploid. where as Meiosis ends in four sister cells that are haploid. That is one, and two. The number of cells and the number of chromosomes.

In meiosis it starts with a cell that then goes through prophase 1, metaphase 1, anaphase 1, and telophase 1. The second half of meiosis is the same as the part that happens in mitosis. So the number of steps

and lastly there is the cell in the previous paragraph... It duplicates its chromosomes so that when the cell divides it finds itself with two sister chromatids for each chromosome so that the 3rd gen of meiosis will all have a form of each gene.

that is four i hope this helps
