I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the steroid excepdon't have any candidates because everyone who is in baseball has probably dabbled in it. If you mean that the player has to be convicted somehow of taking steroids (like Bonds being jailed) then I think Barry will break it this year dispite everyone on earth (except him) hoping he doesn't. After him it could be broken twice in the next 15 years by A-Rod and Pujols.

Barry Bonds of the S.F. Giants is sitting on 734 HR's. If he can stay healthy for the first half of the year, 755 HR's by mid-July is possible. Even if Bonds tails off on his usual HR output, I think he'll pass Aaron before this year is out. I only wish that the question of steroids didn't have to exist with him.

Sadly the record will be broken this year...but without steriods, Alber Pujols is one of the only guys playing right now that has a legitimate chance of getting there, without the juice we may never see anyone get there, but that's unlikely...all records are eventually broken.
Don't say Ryan Howard either, he's already older that Pujols and it remains to be seen if he's a consistant as Pujols.
And sadly we can't be 100% sure that A-Rod, Pujols, and Howard have never juiced either...I'd like to think that they haven't, but we will never know for sure.

I would have love to say ken griffey but unfortunately he injured himself some time back
I would say that pujols has the best chance but he really needs to stay consistent 15-16?
the same with a -rod only I think he will start going down hill soon
8-9 maybe?

The problem is, now days anyone who excells in the power department will be scrunitized over the steriod issue.
If Albert Pujols continues his current pace, I think he may challenge it. How long, who knows? I'd say 10-15.
But I agree with the above answerer, A-rod has a pretty decent shot. He may get it done in 7-10.

A Rod would have a chance to break it in 7 or 8 seasons. He's only 31 and has not had any significant injuries.

I think A-Rod can do it. He was the youngest to hit 400.
