My kids are grown now--the youngest 18 and in college. When they were little, I always had a "snack bin" in the fridge that they could munch on any time. In it were little baggies of cut up veggies, dried fruit, string cheese and whole wheat crackers or wassa crisps. I usually had juice ( the real kind, not the nasty koolaid stuff!) or refillable water bottles in the fridge. Cookies and chips sometimes, but those things they had to ask for.

Reasoning? As a kid we didn't have free access to anything other than the fruit bowl, so it taught me to snack healthier. As they were growing up, I struggled to lose all of the weight I gained during pregnancy and didn't want them to turn out "heavy".

My daughter is 5'8" tall, 130 lbs, lean, muscular, and athletic. She's a dancer, and takes lessons to the tune of 20 or so hours a week, minimum.

Her favorite snack is a melted Hershey's chocolate bar, washed down with a fruit-flavored V8 splash. She eats lunch, after-school meal, supper, after practice meal, and sometimes a bedtime meal.

She burns almost every calorie she consumes with dancing.

It's not what you eat, or how much you eat, it's what you do to get rid of the calories!

to prevent obesity, you should prob not let them eat while watching tv because that will teach them it is ok to snack while watching tv. But for snacks between meals I would say fruits, animal crackers, the less sugar, low fat ones by stauffers. Def not main meal foods like hamburgars and pizza. Def not chips and candy, those are all foods that will lead to obesity. Also, they should be excersizing and playing outside more, not sitting in watching tv. That is just my opinion. Hope it helps you.

It varies on time of day, and what we have in the house but generally its kettle corn or dry cereal...sometimes yogurt or jello.

Trying to revamp what gets brought into the house...healthier choices.
