Any suggestions? We both can probably spend 500 bucks.... don't care if we have to stay in a hostel...

You should try to find a charter vacation. Typically they are a lot less because the agency selling the vacation is actually the one who has bought the airfare through the airline, so they are able to offer you a discount on the airfare as well. Vacations to go has some charter vacations, but I am not sure if they have any out of LA. Also, if you do an all-inclusive resort, you won't have to worry about paying for food or drinks during your stay, which will help since most places that attract tourist tend to mark up the prices of food and beverages.

Why not go up a coast aways to Ventura? Or down into Orange County? I don't know how much you want to drive, etc., but even Death Valley is pretty neat about now. There are plenty of places, do you belong to AAA? If so, go talk to one of the travel consultants...large cities always have 'hidden treasures' not that far way. I used to live in the LA area, I actually like the Glendale/Montrose/LaCrescenta area which is just north and east of the city. Descanso Gardens is in La Canada, and very nice any time of year...good luck.

You should probally get away to a carribean island. Trust me I have been to those type of islands and they are so cool because you get to go on the beach and get your hair braided. Anyway
Best Of Luck!!
