First of all: I'm not trying to offend anyone! If I offend you, you're only proving my point.

Well, lately I have noticed some people in my bus listening to techno loud enough to let the whole bus 'enjoy' it too. This may sound offensive, but it's always the people that follow 'lower' educations that don't think of the others.
I have an IQ of 135 and listen to old rock and I'm pretty open minded to other music too.
Most of the people I know listen to old rock, metal, pop, and pretty much anything else except music that goes 500 beats per minute and believe it or not, have a pretty high IQ too. They're all pretty open minded to other music tastes, but the people on my bus call me alternative, don't understand why I listen to such 'crap' and other things too (yes, I talk to some of them...)

So, is it me or is music taste related to the IQ?

iraqisax, you're very right, but I think people with a high IQ will want to discover new music more easily than others. I mean, if the music amuses you, why change?

I don't think musical taste is that closely related to IQ. It seems to be more related to a person's experience.

Little kids like MacDonald's. They like the ambiance, with Ronald, but they really don't know good food from bad. Some people are older. All they have ever eaten is fast food, so they don't like anything else.

Popular music, like pop culture is aimed at the lowest common denominator. It is the fast food of music. People who have never been exposed to other types of music, will want to hear popular music.

There are millions of people today who think that all it takes is guitars, drums and electronic effects to make a band! That shows how easy they are to amuse.

I know everybody is not going to like the kind of music I prefer (jazz), but I think it is sad that people allow themselves to be limited to what is being pumped out of FM radio and MTV. There is a lot of music out there. You don't have to have a high IQ to expose yourself to it. You just have to break outside the box that you're living in.

I agree. My IQ is 165 and I enjoy a very eclectic assortment of music. I think the more complicated the score, the less those with low IQ's are capable of appreciating the music. It's not that I don't like Dem Franchise Boyz and some of the others, but all those type of songs sound the same after awhile and that is annoying.

This learn is by potential of no potential good. there is not any way in hell that rock followers have a extra physically powerful IQ than steel followers relating to the personalities they often have. And digital music on suitable? specific, some kinds of it, yet how are jazz and steel no longer up there the two? maximum steel followers i comprehend are fairly clever who've a classicist flavor and examine out to familiarize themselves with political technological know-how. This survey additionally does not think approximately people who appreciate numerous genres and the reality that many genres that are deemed to be "lesser" have not got their extra state-of-the-paintings artists provided. This survey in simple terms reeks of holes.

I think that having a higher IQ does lead to a wider range of tastes and preferences. I like to think of myself as an "out of the box" thinker. I listen to everything from Jay-Z (my fav) to coldplay to the Dixie chicks. I think that people who not necessarily are "smarter" but have a higher sense of intelligence are more accepting of new ideas ad experiences. As a result, they can have a more open mind for different genres of music

No, I don't think taste in Music has any connection with IQs.

Taste in Music, Fashion, Hair styles, etc., is part of our individualism.

There are some brilliant punkers out there that I wouldn't be able hold a conversation with, WHY, they're brain power is too far above mine!

My IQ has been tested as 136. I hate stupid songs like the crazy frog or pop music eww. I normally like R&B, but I also like more naughty hip hop artists like lil kim and the ying yang twins and stuff. Although I prefer rappers with more intelligent interesting lyrics like Jay-z. But i guess its cause Im young and hip so i don't like classical stuff.
