Although this could be considered a racist question, it also has a plausible answer. While every city seems to have a MLK Blvd., it is probably one of the oldest streets in the city. (Usually renamed to that whereas it was once a number or lettered street, like "A Street" or "132th Street.") As it is one of the oldest, it's simply a fact of life that wealthier people tend to use their money to migrate out to the suburbs, thereby lowering the value of the inner city property, so it becomes the habitat for the lower classes of the city. In doing so, it usually becomes very rundown and as such, becomes a haven for gang activity. This factor is generally seen in every city in the country, although it's likely one of those unwritten but obvious statements that people never talk about.

My theory is that Martin Luther King Blvd. is usually an older street in most cities, and the older parts of town are usually the first to go downhill (meaning, they turn ghetto before any of the newer streets, the nice ones called Painted Sunset and Morning Dew).

Haha! Chris Rock talked about that in "Bring the Pain". What a funny man. "Martin Luther King always stood for non-violence in his protests... What's Martin Luther King now? A street... and anywhere in the country you on Martin Luther King Boulevard, there's some violence goin down!" My dad works on MLK in St. Louis, and boy is that right.

I stay in Miami, and as a existence long resident I could say that Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd aka NW 62nd St. isn't a highway it rather is risk-free do force down-day or night & definitely is one that is amazingly risky to stroll on inspite of your race.

well i mean think about it, there not going to run a "martin luther king blvd" right through upper middle class suburbia with a bunch of white people, there going to run it through the inner city which subsequently is not a very nice area.
