Rosie, it really depends on what you want to use it for. If you just use the computer for internet and typing stuff, get one with at least 2 gb of memory and a dual core processor if you get Windows Vista. Also, if you get vista, look for the "Home Premium" edition or better.

Crap=bought from friend or family member
{learned the hard way!!}
Good=bought at sears or dell some type of store that has a specialization in "laptops"!!

I like the Toshiba Tecra, it's reliable and comes with a good spec. It's a good deal for a quality laptop.

Had good luck with Toshiba's (they last forever). I bought a Gateway and it works great minus the disc drive randomly opening every once and a while.

DELL laptops are pretty good i have one and it works really good i dont get too many problems from it

even cheap laptops are ok but with 3 years warranty

I like alienware. u can customize it they way u need it. if u need it for gaming, programming, or other things.
