a real committment? I want to get mine done, so I won't bite my nails so much... And I think they look really nice.

I am a Licensed Cosmetologist/Nail Tech/Instructor and I spent 4 years just teaching a full nail program at a local college.
Acrylic nails are a real commitment.
As well, they can have their set of problems.
First, they do need to be filled, some people can have them done as often as once a week. While others can go as long as month in between. It just depends on your nails and how fast they grow. Also, if you are rough on them. And if you are willing to do home care on them. They do require alot of commitment.
Also, don't go cheap, you get what you pay for here. Many quickie, low priced shops are using a product called MMA which is very dangerous. Can cause your nails to turn black and fall off permanently. And you could get very sick. Also, they usually don't use very good sanitation practices.
Be willing to go to a really good salon. Where they are very clean and are willing to tell you what the product is that they use. And that charges more. It's just the way it is.
Personally, I prefer Gel nails, they are usually prettier, and they don't have all the side effects associated with Acrylic.
But, they are usually alittle pricer.
But, again, you get what you pay for.
Good luck. I hope this helps.

yup - every 2-3weeks you'll need maintenance and your nails will grow underneath the acryllic - downside is after you've taken the acryllic off - you'll need about a year for 'healthy' nails again... BUT.. upside is the polish lasts longer on acryllic and oh you should also soak them off every 'season' so you can get new acryllic put on - it gets dry and yellowed and cracks if you just keep reapplying over it...so if you have the $$ go for it! one last thing - if you can get 'gels' instead do that - 'similar' process but look much more natural.

Yes, You will have to keep the maintenance up. Getting fills done every week or every two weeks depending how fast your nails grow and your length. You will have to keep your hands dry after they been in water, especially if you don't get the fills, water will get into the spaces and cause mold to set in.

I wouldn't say a real commitment. If you are going to keep them for a while, you have to go in every two weeks to get them filled. I suggest getting pink and white powder. That way, you can paint them whatever color you want and if you don't want color, you can take it off and have a french manicure underneath. Also, wait til your nails grow just a little bit before you get them put on. It may hurt a little if you get them put on with not enough nail there.

Also, if you don't want to keep them on for a while, I don't suggest you get them at all. It hurts really really bad to take them off. And as long as you don't pick at them, they won't come off on their own. (Assuming you go to a good place to get them done)

O yes, trust me, tooooo much commitment, I wore them for 3 years straight. When I took them off, my nails were as thin as tissue. It was horrible. It took me 1 year to get my nails healthy again. Now i will never go back. it's easier to nurture you natural nails. they're free, prettier, and YOURS! Try Nail Life. U can get it at Sally's, it groes great nails fast!

They are nice, but I have always had a problem keeping them on! I guess if you take good care of them you should be fine. If you want them off though they can harm your real nails. Be Careful!

it's a real commitment. every 2 weeks and then between if one gets messed up. It also weakens your natural nail...well it does mine. They are pretty though, and worth it in my oppinion

I WOULDN'T DO THIS. YOU CAN GET INFECTIONS, HAVE A NAIL COME OFF AND NEED TO REPLACE BEFORE YOUR NEXT FILL IN. IT'S COSTLY. YES, IT DOES LOOK NICE BUT AT WHAT COST DO YOU WANT TO PAY FOR IT.
