I overcame an extremely severe addiction myself and I found it was very helpful to surround myself with people who were having the same struggles. Once I realized that I wasn't the only one with this problem and was able to relate to their problems and solutions I was able to start my journey to stopping my addiction. However, if you've addicted to something like gambling, alcohol, or drugs, the odds are you can't turn it into a "bad habit" if that is what you were trying to do. If you're struggling with something as simple as swearing that doesn't have a mental and physical component then odds are it can be helped in other manners such as replacing the behavior with something positive. Biting nails...get a manicure etc. Good luck!!

Also remember back to a time before you were addicted to whatever it is, back then you didn't NEED or CRAVE this thing? I believe that if you REALLY want to give something up then you should be able to. People that claim to have 'no willpower' just are not ready to lose the thing in their life that they are trying to get rid of.

Well, with some things its easier to quit cold turkey. I was hooked on regular soda, but after having a talk with my doctor, I was able to quit right on the spot. I haven't drank a regular soda in 10 months, and I don't intend to.

Replace it with a good habit. I stopped biting my nails by learning how to knit- when I want to chew, I pull my needles over and work on my current project instead.

If you break down to your addiction, dont be so hard on yourself... start over, but be harder on telling yourself no....
