They lost the war. Hitler never really loses his power, he kills himself.

The loss of World War II led to the end of power for the official Nazi power structure. Most of the leaders committed suicide right before the end of the war. The trials at Nuremberg took care of the rest, and the key leaders on trial ended up with death sentences. The Nazi movement, however, was far from dead. Massive re-education programs were implemented throughout Germany for years to try to end the indoctrination of the youth under Hitler. It was only partially successful. The neo-Nazi (new Nazi) movement rose out of the ashes of World War II. The ideas never died and were simply transferred onto restless, unemployed, marginally educated young people. The movement spread to other countries, and took root in the United States in the wake of the civil rights movement, particularly in the southern region. The web is filled with hate sites, some masquerading quite brilliantly as psuedo-historical sites.

Being killed has a nasty effect on ones "power".

Historically however, there are several reasons for the Nazi's demise.

1- You have a raving loon psychopath as a leader who really isn't good at military strategy.

2- You try fighting a war on both sides of your country Europe to your left, The Soviets to your right....... result........ A swastika sandwich.

For all intents and purposes Hitler was the Nazi movement; no offense to all the neo nazi skinheads out there posing like they are bad azzes.

First off, their supreme leader shot himself in the head.

After that, Germany was forced to surrender by treaty (1945). All the remaining Nazis disbanded. Many high level leaders who risked genocide trials escaped to South America.
