I had always wondered that myself. A few years ago I was driving down a stretch of Highway in Arkansas. Highway No. 64 to be exact. It was night and I saw that I was about to come upon someone on a bicycle. I remember thinking "what an idiot, out here riding a bike at night with a long dress on". When I got a little closer I KNEW that something wasn't right. This "lady" was riding a bike with a long late 19th century dress on, and the kicker was that she was completely opaque! She was a ghost! So, the question is not only why would a ghost wear clothes but also, why would one want ride a bike? I drove on with my freaked out self until I reached a very tiny town with a 24 hour gas station/coffee shop and I stopped in there to gather my sences. I wouldn't have told anyone else what I had seen for fear of people thinking that I was crazy. However, the minute that I entered the place everyone else was talking about the ghost, too!! It seems that she had shown herself to all kinds of drivers that evening.

My own personal belief is that yes Ghosts exist, and the cloathing they wear, Is because I think to some degree, a spirit has a bit of control over it's image. Whether that control is concious or unconcious, the Ghost is likely to manifest similar to the way the ghost believes itself to look, therefore will likley appear to be wearing clothing unless the ghost has a nude self image. Also many people think that a Ghost's image will be similar to what the person looked like when they died, or when they were burried. - Just as a thought.

Well if ghosts did exist, if they had no clothes you wouldn't be able to see them? ? Not all ghost sightings have clothes on. sometimes they are just like white streaks, and its like the spirits presence of form. But I'm only talking about what I've seen on TV. I don't believe in ghosts at all.

Interesting. I never thought of it. I saw something: A clearly defined man, almost transparent. He was wearing kind of 1970's clothing. Suddenly, the figure was gone. No forced entry, not one single fingerprint, and I was not hallucinating.
Months later I learned that someone with the description of the man I saw had died in that place trying to escape from a fire. The year of death 1973. I had no way of knowing about that because I had just arrived to that Country and barely knew two words in their language.
I didn't see a ghost. I saw "something". I don't know what that something was. He was dressed, the clothes were not white, nor gray, but full colored clothing.

A ghost's appearance is a reflection of how the ghost perceived itself at the time of death. There are nude ghosts, but only if they died in the buff. So, if you know you'll be a ghost, dress appropriately, like chains or long trailing cloth, really work the scare factor.

Yes I do think they have control of the way they project themselves. For example, a dead friend of mine appeared to me (in a dreamlike way)with a very nice head of hair, when he was alive, he was bold. When I talked about this to the person closest to him she told me that he always hated losing his hair, and felt uncomfortable because of that ,although he never actually commented about it to anyone else but her. So if ghosts appear wearing clothes it could be because that's the way they feel comfortable . If I where a ghost I wouldn't haunt people in the nude, well maybe if I had lived in a nudist colony in life...hmm??

Dude! It's cold in the afterlife. Ever had that weird feeling where the hair on the back of your neck stands on end and you get a little shake from a sudden feeling of cold? That's a spirit that just went through you. They need the clothes and to walk through someone on occasion to stay warm. Hope this helps.
Just got chill.

i think that a ghost wears clothes in order for us to figure out a time line. certain clothing items were only worn during a certain time period... PERHAPS the ghost is hoping we will investigate the siting and figure out who they are/were.
